NSPCA commends Facebook’s commerce policies

According to the Facebook commerce policies, posts may not promote the sale of any animals.

The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) has commended social media platform, Facebook, for allowing users to report any post that promotes the sale of animals on the site.

According to the Facebook commerce policies, posts may not promote the sale of any animals, this includes: live animals, pets, livestock or any part, pelt or skin from an animal including fur. The sale of animal cages, products for animals (toys, collars), veterinary services, grooming services and boarding services are allowed.

 

“We commend Facebook for making this decision and believe this will help curb the abuse of animals for profit. Although it is not illegal to breed or sell animals in South Africa, we have serious welfare concerns related to this practice,” said NSPCA
