ABC’s women’s winter tournament in July

The annual women’s winter fours tournament will take place on Wednesday, 24 and Thursday 25 July.

In round two of the men’s open singles at Toti Bowling Club, Lofty van Tonder beat Barry Bush; Mike Pitchers defeated Ian Crouch; Alec Stirzaker overcame Dallas Davis and Dave McMillan beat Glen Scorgie.

In round two of the women’s open singles, Tokkie de Kock beat Kathy Cox and is through to the semi-finals. In a first round game Amanda Ninow defeated Lynn Joubert. In the women’s novice singles, Jenny Rautenbach overcame Alet Wobben.

First round games of women’s nominated pairs results were as follows; Heather Brown and Dawn Schauer won over Talla and Lesley Stephens-Viviers; Leonie Mills and Leigh Callaghan defeated Jean Snyman and Marie van der Walt; Lynn Joubert and Michelle Pitchers beat Karen Glover and Jaylene Fagan and Doreen Salmond and Marion Crouch got the better of Nicky Stirzaker and Jackie Holdrick by one shot. Nicky and Jackie fared better in the semi-final of the women’s drawn pairs beating Heather Cooper and Jamie-Lee Phaal. In the semis of the mixed pairs, Vince Phaal and Kathy Cox defeated Michelle and Mike Pitchers.

In the women’s 2-4-2, Tokkie de Kock and Jane Coetzee were the winners; runners-up were Elbie Fourie and Cathy Badenhorst and the second session went to Marion Crouch and Nicky Stirzaker. The 100 board was won by Jane Coetzee. The winners of the men’s trips were Ian Crouch, Lofty van Tonder and William Sithole; runners-up were Glen Scorgie, Peter Callaghan and Barry Bush and the second session was won by Peter Labuschagne, Vish Studinski and Ben Venter.

The annual women’s winter fours tournament will take place on Wednesday, 24 and Thursday 25 July. Entry forms will be available this week. Items like good condition clothing, books, CDs and DVDs, jigsaws, ornaments and knick-knacks are needed for the winter table. Unfortunately, the planned 80th birthday festival to be played this coming weekend has been postponed until Saturday, 2 and Sunday, 3 November.

At TGIF, Dave McMillan won the 100 board. Sue Martin was not in attendance to win the members draw; next week’s draw is worth R150. Jacqui Birch was not lucky in choosing the winning key this week, next week’s lucky key will be worth R4 230. Good bowling to Lynn Joubert, Doreen Salmond, Jane Coetzee and Jeanne Alexander in the PN qualifying masters on Saturday, 15 and Sunday, 16 June. The monthly quiz run by Greg and Gwyn McLeod will take place on Wednesday, 19 June. Birthday greetings are sent this week to Greg Veldtman and David Patton.
