Why do certain pests exist?

I believe that everything, whether we class it as a pest or friend, was created by God for a plan and purpose.

What is the purpose of mosquitoes, ticks and fleas?

Are they just biting, blood sucking, disease spreading pests the world would be better off without? Or would it?

If you follow my articles on snakes, you should know by now that snakes are not evil demonic creatures or that are out to kill your family, but that they were created with a plan and purpose to help keep the number of rodents, like rats and mice, to an absolute minimum in our environment. While ticks, fleas and mosquitoes are really annoying pests, they are also created with a specific plan and purpose.

The main purpose for mosquitoes is to play a vital part in the food chain. It is proven that several species of fish would go extinct very soon after mosquitoes. This is because a mosquito’s larvae is a vital food source for several fish species, especially in the early parts of their development. If those fish species were to go extinct it will have a huge knock-on effect throughout the ecosystem of other species that rely on those fish to live. While the pesky mosquito may be near the bottom of the food chain, they are vitally important.

As horrible as it may sound, mosquitoes, ticks and fleas were also created to spread disease. Disease is another method used to make sure that the weak are weeded out and only the strong survive. In this manner no one species does better than it should.

I believe that everything, whether we class it as a pest or friend, was created by God for a plan and purpose. These things were put into a specific environment to perform a very valuable role in that environment. It is the human race that messes with design and ultimately causes problems for ourselves. We have moved animals, insects and plants from their place of origin, either intentionally or unintentionally, whether pets or pests, and introduced them to places they were never designed to be and now they thrive, usually to the detriment of the environment around them.

This ultimately has a major impact on the human race, so I ask you to think carefully before planting an alien plant, or hauling out the poison to kill whatever the thing is that you consider to be a pest. We are destroying this world far quicker than it can recover due to our own carelessness. We have a whole world of information at our fingertips to help us make a more informed decision than ever before, it’s called a smartphone.
