UPDATE: Folweni teacher’s murder shocks education fraternity

The MEC for Education in KZN, Kwazi Mshengu reacted with shock and disbelief at the news.

A statement released by the KZN Department of Education said that the teacher slain at Masuku Primary School on Gaze Makhanya Avenue in Folweni on Tuesday morning, 11 June was allegedly shot dead by two random people who gained unauthorised access to the school premises, despite the fact the school has a security guard officially employed by the department.

The MEC for Education in KZN, Kwazi Mshengu reacted with shock and disbelief at the news. “This is the most painful news I have had to deal with since assuming office. On behalf of the entire education fraternity, I send heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr Nyawose,” he said. “We call upon the law enforcement authorities to investigate the circumstances which might have led to this barbaric and heartless act, and possibly apprehend the perpetrators.”

The department visited the school and the family of the deceased teacher on Tuesday to pay its respects and provide any possible support.
