Injured biker needs your help

Henri is the only breadwinner for his wife and five children.

A motorcyclist who was injured in an accident on the N2 northbound last month needs the Toti community’s help urgently. Henri Pienaar was involved in a horrible accident on his way to work when he was allegedly hit from behind by a taxi travelling in the same direction. He was flung over the guardrail and down a high embankment.

He sustained serious injuries, including a leg broken in the hip, leg shattered below the knee, suspected internal bleeding, injured neck and face, bruised collar bone and broken ribs. Unfortunately, his family does not have medical insurance and he was admitted to a state hospital near Durban.

“I’m reaching out to people who can and are willing to contribute to raise money for my brother to get the urgent specialist medical attention he needs, possibly to save his life,” said Bertie. “The hospital is reportedly clean and staff as friendly, but the staff are overworked and resources inadequate. Henri’s recovery did not start well. Blood circulation was restricted for almost 24 hours before he was allocated a bed.

“Initial concerns were for his leg only, however, we have seen his condition rapidly deteriorating to where we are now fearing for his life. Untreated internal bleeding is now our major concern. He has been vomited blood and bile, and his fever is increasing, possibly indicating internal infection. We feel extremely helpless as no-one in our family has the kind of money needed to get Henri admitted to a facility that can provide the urgent medical care he needs.”

Henri’s wife Monica, has been quoted about R25 000 that is needed for an ambulance to transfer him and it will cost about R60 000 to admit him. “Monica was told the hospital wants another R250 000 secured before they will operate. We’ve been supporting her the best we can, but this is a huge amount of money we can’t raise by ourselves.”

Henri was transferred to Durban from Witbank. They battled to sell their house in Witbank and were forced to rent it. Unfortunately, the renters destroyed their property and disappeared and this placed them in financial difficulty. His accident has aggravated their situation and Henri is the only breadwinner for his wife and five children. If you help, visit https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/henri-pienaar. Funds raised will be transferred directly to the hospital and medical service providers.
