Victims of crime urged to open cases

The CCPO, ET Rapid Response and Blue Security went to view the CCTV footage after a case wasn't opened.

The Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) urges Toti residents to open cases if they have been victims of crime. On Sunday, 26 May, a housebreaker broke into a holiday complex in Camp Road, Winklespruit by climbing over a live electric fence, and stole a TV.

“Up until Thursday, 30 May a case had still not been opened. After hearing about it the CCPO, ET Rapid Response and Blue Security went to view the CCTV footage,” said CCPO committee member, George Snodey. “The footage was very good and we arranged for SAPS to come out to the residence, where a case was opened.”

The next day Snodey stopped at Victory Spar in Warner Beach and noticed the suspect hanging around the car park. “I was certain it was him, but called CCPO and Blue Security officer, Triple M to come and verify it. He quickly admitted it was him and we will hopefully recover the TV very soon.”

The suspect was arrested and detained. “If a case had not been opened, he would have been free to roam the streets and rob other people at will. Make sure you open a case, it’s the right thing to do.”
