Prevent post-workout breakouts with these tips

Beat that horrid post-workout breakout by following these four simple tips.

Working out boasts a bottomless list of benefits. However, after working out many – especially women – may find their skin isn’t glowing and looking as clear as it should.

This isn’t the exercising that’s causing your breakout, but rather what you have on your skin, what you’re wearing and even how you wipe off that nasty (but healthy) sweat you’ve broken into.

Your Family Magazine has provided these four tips to heed to prevent a post-workout breakout:

1. Clean your skin

Before you work out, remove all make-up, sunscreen or moisturiser from your face. When skin products, bacteria, and dead skin cells combine with sweat, you’ve got a concoction for a breakout. If you must, cover spots with a concealer that contains antibacterial tea tree oil or salicylic acid.

2. Wear cool clothing

If you’re prone to acne flare-ups on your chest and back, try wearing lighter, looser clothes that won’t hug your body. Most gym clothing is designed to pull sweat away from your body, or absorb it. Both types work well for keeping skin sweat free.

3. Towel tricks

There’s nothing wrong with a little mid-workout glow, and sweating soon into a workout is actually a sign of good health. But if you find yourself constantly wiping away that sweat, rather use a towel to gently pat your skin dry. Excessive rubbing or wiping has been shown to irritate spots and cause further inflammation.

4. Drink loads of water

Your body detoxifies itself when sweating, so help it along by drinking more water while you exercise. This won’t only prevent dehydration, but will promote healthier blood circulation and flush out all the toxins that have been contributing to skin breakouts.
