Taxi association donates school uniforms to underprivileged pupils

SANTACO has been supporting impoverished school children since 2014.

The South African National Taxi Council Association (SANTACO) Ningizimu one region increased its support at its annual school uniform donation ceremony at Amanzimtoti Civic Centre on Thursday, 23 May.

Each year the taxi owners dip into their own pockets to purchase complete school uniforms and shoes, which are donated to local schools. “This year 15 taxi associations participated and donated uniforms, jerseys and shoes to 514 underprivileged pupils from 83 local primary and high schools,” said chairperson, Bongani Nzuza.

SANTACO has been supporting impoverished school children since 2014. Last year, 14 associations helped 351 pupils from 74 schools, and in 2017 13 associations assisted 287 pupils from 66 schools benefitted, showing a generous increase each year.

“We concentrate on schools in our area and we leave it up the teachers to decide which pupils need our help,” said Nzuza. The Ningizimu one region covers the greater Amanzimtoti area, from Isipingo to Umbumbulu and inland to mid-Illovo.
