UPDATE: Cyclist dies after crashing into cement structure

Police confirmed no vehicle was involved in the incident.

A cyclist who died on the N2 bridge on Nyathi Road in Athlone Park on Saturday afternoon, 18 May was not hit by a vehicle, as initially believed by paramedics.

Police confirmed no vehicle was involved. “It is alleged that the cyclist, an unknown black man, lost control of his bicycle and drove into the cement structure. The deceased was found with an open head injury.

“The body was transported to Gale Street mortuary and a case of culpable homicide is being investigated by Amanzimtoti detectives,” said Amanzimtoti SAPS communications officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy.
