CCPO nabs bank card thief

The suspects rammed their car into the back of another vehicle.

ATM card thieves got more than they bargained for when they were chased by police and response officers on Friday afternoon, 10 May.

The drama unfolded at about 3.15pm when Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) committee member, George Snodey spotted some suspicious activity around the ATM while driving past Victory Spar in Warner Beach. “After witnessing what appeared to be a theft going down, I stopped to hold observation and saw them rob a guy of his card,” he said.

The two thieves then drove off towards Winklespruit. A call for back-up on the CCPO radio network soon had CCPO, ET Rapid Response and Blue Security officers on the hunt for the suspect’s vehicle. CCPO and Blue Security patrol officer, Mbuyiselo ‘Triple M’ Mdunjane and his crewman Mbambo Nhlanhla spotted the suspects at DSM Mall in Winklespruit.

“When they saw the CCPO vehicle, they sped off onto the R102 towards Umgababa, then U-turned on the highway back towards Durban,” said Snodey. Under pressure from everyone chasing them, they rammed into the back of another vehicle that was trying to get out of their way about a kilometre from the Umgababa onramp.
