Time to say goodbye

Southlands Sun journalist Lauren Beukes bids farewell as she embarks on a new journey in her career.

The time has come for me to spread my wings and fly off to new adventures and challenges.

But leaving Southlands Sun and Caxton is not an easy thing to do, since it’s where I grew as a journalist. I was told in my interview about three years ago, that working at Southlands Sun should only be a stepping stone until something greater comes along.

And what a great stepping stone it has been. I have formed many relationships throughout my community newspapers career, including my work mates – now my family. I have met many great community people from Bluff and Montclair and surrounding areas and Wentworth who have showed me what the word community means.

I have witnessed all the hard work and dedication it goes into making a community succeed. There are so many of you to mention, but I’m sure you know who you are – I will miss you all, but definitely will not forget you, as you have become friends, aunties and uncles to me, and who have offered some amazing advice and support throughout the years.

I won’t be going too far, but my style of journalism is changing. I have left the print industry to move into broadcast with East Coast Radio, so, hopefully you all will hear my voice on the radio one day.

This year has been a true testament of change for me. I am nervous, excited and so blessed to be given this opportunity to not only to climb up the ladder of success, but to help me grow into a better professional and person.

I always have said to never be afraid of change, it is inevitable – it’s how you take that change and make it your own. Take control of your own destiny and stay positive and confident towards all challenges in life.

Stay blessed, stay true and always be kind!
