Show your support for LGBT community at fun walk

Dress in anything bright and colourful and create a supportive poster.

Same Love Toti hosts a fun walk on Durban beachfront on Saturday, 18 May. The walk will coincide with International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia on Friday, 17 May.

“Toti is a diverse town and Same Love Toti is committed to being a human rights based non-profit organisation in support of LGBT+ rights,” said founder Kim Lithgow.

“We have had a great show of support from many organisations, like Vodacom, Lush, Legal Aid, Epicentre, the Hate Crimes Working Group, the Department of Justice, Behind the Books, the Fruit basket, The Gay and Lesbian Network in Pietermaritzburg, KZN Pride and our local Amon-Ra Travel and Tours.

“We invite everyone to join the fun walk in support of this international initiative. Over 130 countries observe this day, and it is a great opportunity to speak out against the injustices faced by many LGBTI, especially in KZN. This month, yet another hate crime has been reported, and we become a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.”

The theme for the walk this year is ‘Justice and Protection for all’ and families, friends and LGBTI are invited to participate and be a visible example of inclusion and support.

It takes place long the Durban beachfront promenade, from Bell Street parking lot to California Dreaming, from 10am to noon and entrance is free. Dress in anything bright and colourful.

“We ask everyone to create supportive posters to use on the day that show support for LGBT+ people. These can be creative provided the message is consistent with the IDAHOT theme, that is in support of the LGBT+ community and/or against phobias related to the LGBT+ community,” said Kim.
