Good Samaritans warm hearts after Durban flood

The donations helped the duo make more than 100 hotdogs and tons of coffee.

In times of devastation and stress, the strong will always rise. Amanzimtoti’s good Samaritans, Liefie Kolm and Henk van Zyl, rolled up their sleeves and got to work to feed those affected by last week’s floods and the rescue workers attending the scenes.

During the October 2017 floods, the pair made huge pots of soup and dispensed cupfuls to grateful workers.

This time when Liefie sent out a plea for assistance on social media they received assorted goods. The donations helped them make more than 100 hotdogs and tons of coffee which were handed over to councillor, Winnie Shabane to distribute in the worst hit rural areas, and police and rescue workers at the Rockview Road cave-in.

“A special thanks to the owners of Take n Pay in Toti CBD for coming on board to assist us,” said a grateful Liefie. “Thanks to Victory Spar, Bluff Meat Supply in Winklespruit, Kingsway Total Garage, Barend and Andelise Groen, and Heleen and Riaan Olivier.

“We had a response to our plea on social media within five minutes. You guys are amazing. You gave me what I needed to be able to do what we did. It is a nice feeling to get help when you ask for it. A big thank you to each and every one of you.”
