We rely solely on donations and sponsorships to run the organisation because we receive no government funding.

Reverend Andrew Manning (chairman) heads a newly appointed Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare Society executive committee with Judy Cuppan (vice-chairman), Peggy Smit (treasurer), Sandra Govender (senior social worker), Kim Marais (executive secretary), past chairman, Jenny Smith (executive member) and Pauline Widdowson (executive member).

The organisation serve the needs of the underprivileged and their families in Kingsburgh West, Illovo South, Illovo Glen, Warner Beach, St Winifreds, Winklespruit, Shulton Park, Doonside and Doonheights

It regularly conducts workshops in support of personal development and empowerment and its programmes are aimed at prevention, early intervention, education and life skills. “We are growing our support of early childhood development centres and finding there are many needs there,” said Manning.

Kingsburgh Welfare serves as a safety net for children and families at large; strives to prevent family disintegration irrespective of ethnicity and religious beliefs; fosters a sense of responsibility and self-reliance and engages, educates and empowers individuals by collectively networking with stakeholders to bring about change.

Reverend Andrew Manning heads a newly appointed Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare Society committee.

Its objectives are to sustain family units by offering family counseling, sustain individuals and families with material assistance during a difficult period, address the social needs of individuals and families through the rendering of professional social work services, empower people from communities through the presentation of capacity building, awareness programmes and developmental projects, sustain services through the involvement of volunteers and outsourcing and collaborate with organisations, businesses, institutions and partners who share the same goals and ideologies.

“As a non-profit organisation, we rely solely on donations and sponsorships to run the organisation because we receive no government funding. We are grateful to AECI for their ongoing support and, at present, our main income stream is through our thrift shop. Donations of clothing are always welcome to sustain this. We are open Monday to Friday from 8am to noon.

“We believe that with the support of our local community we can make a significant difference in the lives of those with whom we interact. We encourage community members and local business to consider joining us in caring for our community, by making financial contributions to further the work of the organisation,” said Manning.
