Housebreaker nabbed with stolen goods

Even though the suspect was apprehended, the owner refused to open a case.

Thanks to an alert informer, a house breaker was apprehended and detained by the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) on Wednesday afternoon, 17 April.

“We received a call about the housebreaking, which was circulated over our radio network. The suspect was seen hanging around a mall in Winklespruit, trying to sell the stolen items, but when we stopped there, he fled towards the railway lines,” said CCPO committee member, George Snodey.

Unfortunately for the thief, CCPO, Blue Security and ET Rapid Response officers arrived to assist in full force and he was quickly chased down and apprehended. “He took us to a residence in Postlooper Circle, where he had broken into the wendy house. The owner, who isn’t a CCPO client, was unaware his items had been stolen. He followed us to the police station, where a case was opened and the suspect detained.”

Earlier that day, a lawnmower was stolen from flats behind Warnerdoone. The mower was found hidden behind the library and even though the suspect who stole it was apprehended, the owner refused to open a case.

“This was a pity, because this suspect was out on a one-year sentence, suspended for five years for a robbery he had previously committed in Toti, and the opening of a case would cancelled his suspension and he would have been sent to prison to finish his year.

“This incident was also good work by a combination of CCPO, ET Rapid Response and Blue Security members,” said Snodey.
