Take up dog walking at Amanzimtoti SPCA

The Toti SPCA will be closed this Easter weekend, but will still be taking in strays at all times.

THE Amanzimtoti SPCA’s adoptables are given walks on Saturdays, as well as scattered days throughout the week, all dependent on the number of volunteers willing to give their time.

The SUN visited the local shelter on Saturday morning, 13 April and found that the SPCA is welcoming more dog walker volunteers to join in the initiative.

Stacey Wall and ‘Roxy’.

Laura Konig, Stacy and Raymond Wall expressed how at the moment, there are a shortage of dog walkers and this results in the dogs who are either boarding at the shelter or waiting for the forever home, not receiving a necessary daily walk. If keen to get involved, visit the Amanzimoti SPCA at 1 Nyati Road, Athlone Park on a Saturday morning between 8:30am and noon. The staff and volunteers will show newbies the ropes.

Raymond Wall and ‘Angie’.

“Newbies shouldn’t be scared, we won’t push them into taking dogs they don’t feel comfortable with, and if they would feel more comfortable simply playing with the pups, that is still very appreciated, as they need the socialisation,” said Stacy.

Those interested are to wear old clothes and takkies, and if under 16-years-old, they need to be accompanied by an adult.
