Play it safe with cyber safety

Protect your information and money by being online savvy.

Most of our time is spent on the internet. We do everything on it such as internent banking, online shopping or paying bills but there are risks to it andthere are a few safety tips we need to practise to protect ourselves and our money from potential scams and identity theft.

There are a few rules to make you cyber savvy and safe while enjoying the awesome bargains online.

What you should do:

Connect to a safe WiFi network (not public): don’t connect unknown WiFi networks. They are an open invitation for hackers to compromise unsecured devices. Avoid entering any banking or personal information on public networks.

Shop on secure websites: A secure website will have telltale signs that it’s legit such as the lock icon, unbroken key symbol, or a website address that begins with https// (fun fact; the “s” stands for “secure”)

Don’ t allow a site to store your information: Don’t save your personal information, passwords and credit card information on a site. Leaving info there can put it at risk of having cybercriminals access it. Always clear your history of passwords and details.

Review credit card statements for unauthorised charges:  Make it a habit to review your bank statements for any abnormal or suspicious purposes. Contact your bank immediately if there are any strange charges.

Only buy from websites you trust: As the saying goes “Stick to what you know” Go into sites you have used before and know you can trust. And if it’s too good to be true – it probably is.

Be wise online and keep yourself safe from online scammers.
