Amanzimtoti’s bikers accelerate into KZN road racing season

The KZN Road Racing Club's second race of the season was held on Saturday, 13 April at Dezzi Raceway.

THE KZN Road Racing Club held the second race of the season on Saturday, 13 April at Dezzi Raceway and fantastic racing was showcased at the event.

Amanzimtoti riders rode their hearts out and did the town proud, once again.

“We had brilliant weather throughout the day and the perfect track conditions boosted the confidence of all our racers out at Dezzi Raceway,” said Carmen Conci. “As always, our very own riders from Amanzimtoti made some very big waves at the event: smashing lap records, taking podiums and wins, and giving spectators a show that kept us on our toes. It was a great thing to watch as each rider had raised the bar in some way.”

Much went down in the ever-exciting 300cc class as Toti riders Nikolai, Jesse and Anja Conci of Helluvafast Motorcycles, and Malcolm Rudman of Montclair Motorcycles battled alongside each other for the very competitive win.

“It was a tight battle for first place between Nikolai, Malcolm and Blaze Baker as the top three riders tossed around from start to finish. Nikolai battled with a worn-out rear tyre throughout the race, despite that still hung on finishing with solid second place for the day.

Anja Conci raised some eyebrows all around as she battled her way through the field and claimed her position in the class. She broke her personal best lap-time and started from pole position in race two. Anja entertained her fans and gave us a spectacular race making her team and her sponsors very proud.

Jesse Conci had an all-round battle for fourth place against Drew Gates and managed to keep Drew under his reign, and went home with his fourth place trophy.”

An exciting race took place in the 150cc class, as now two-strokes had entered into the class spiking the competitive spirit in many racers including Toti’s Jesse Conci and Karl Etzel.

“Karl Etzel of Auto Rust Control had been challenged to ride a Honda CBR150 against the two-strokes,” saoid Carmen. “He fought hard and well against Shaun Joffe of RBS Yamaha to finish just behind in race one, claiming the whole-shot in race two, and holding first place right to the end.

Karl had taken the win for the day being the first person to beat a two-stoke in the class. Jesse Conci of Helluvafast Motorcycles had a very challenging day in this class as he faced a lot of technical difficulties, but still persevered and took a third in race two.”

The speedy Motard class offered entertainment too.

“Current Motard champion, Amanzimoti’s Hein Etzel of Argotek Engineering dominated on the track yet again. As early as qualifying, Hein had already beaten the lap record for a Motard on Dezzi Raceway, which paved the way for a clean win for the day for Hein,” explained Carmen.

“Karl Etzel also gave us show in race two as a small mistake took him back, but that wasn’t enough to discourage Karl as he fought his way back up to the top and claimed his hard earned second place for the day.”

Amanzimtoti’s Malcolm Rudman of Montclair Motorcycles was unrivalled in the Formula Extreme Class on Saturday. Blaze Baker, as well as Hein Etzel, stepped up to challenge Malcolm and gave the spectators something to shout about, at the close of the day Malcolm finished on the top step of the podium with Hein Etzel in second and Blaze Baker in third.
