Going to the post office to renew our car licence is a yearly task. But there is always one document we forget and how much do we really pay for it?
You get a 21-day grace period in which to renew an expired motor vehicle licence.
To renew your car licence you must have your:
- ID book
- Proof of address
- Motor vehicle licence renewal notice (MVL2): If you do not have the renewal notice, or did not receive it in the post, complete the ALV1 form (Application for Licensing of Motor Vehicle) which is downloadable on the licenserenewal.co.za
- Appropriate licence fee which according to AutoTrader, varies:
In KZN, a car of 1 000 kilograms will cost you R552 to license, per year and a large SUV weighing in at 2 500 kg is R1, 464.
