Highland Gathering offers musical feast with piper bands

Bookings for this year’s stalls are filling up fast, so if you want a stall, you are encouraged to contact the organisers as soon as possible.

Twenty-two piper bands have been confirmed for this year’s much-anticipated Highland Gathering hosted by Amanzimtoti Lions Club at Amanzimtoti Sports Centre on Saturday, 27 April. “With more bands to come, and each boasting 30 to 50 pipers per band, we will have a strong contingent for the 56th annual gathering this year,” said Lion Carol Botha.

“We also have a brand-new band on display this year, the Durban Caledonian. Thirteen bands have been booked to play in the beer garden. These include Lee Henning, Glen Winter, Sheldon Dickson, Aaron Nel, Salty Dog, Ecbbb, Dv8, Calamity Jane, Raw, Rochelle and the Flyers, and Broken Advocate.”

With revamped fields for genuine arts and crafts, the classic car club and car dealers displaying their vehicles and a larger children’s entertainment area with added attractions, this year’s gathering is one not to be missed. Last year estimates of between 8,000 and 10,000 visitors flocked to the second largest gathering of pipe bands outside Scotland.

“Bookings for this year’s stalls are filling up fast, so if you want a stall, you better call quick,” said Carol. Email forms to john.west@amanzimtoti-lions.org and specify ‘crafts’ if that is what your stand is selling when you send in your forms. If clubs or anyone wants to participate in the arena events, email ken.toward@sappi.com. For more information on the Highland Gathering, call Carol on 076-934-7527 or email botha.carol60@gmail.com.
