Men arrested with teenager’s stolen cellphone

Within two to three minutes, the entire area was cordoned off.

Excellent response time and teamwork by various local crime fighters saw two muggers behind bars shortly after they robbed a teenager of his cellphone on the Umdoni Road bridge on Monday morning, 25 March.

The Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) received a report of the mugging that took place just after 11am near Kingsway High School.

“Within two to three minutes, the entire area was cordoned off by members of the Toti SAPS crime prevention unit and Metro Police K9 unit, who both share our radios, as well as officers from ET Rapid Response, Blue Security and CCPO committee members,” said the CCPO’s George Snodey.

Officers chased the suspects who fled in different directions. One was caught by CCPO supervisor, Michael Mkhize and a second suspect was nabbed by the Metro’s K9 officer hiding in some bushes in possession of the stolen phone and a knife. The third suspect managed to escape. “This was great teamwork once again. Thanks to everyone involved.”
