Power surge leaves residents in the dark after loadshedding

Beach Road residents have been urged to switch off air conditioners, electrical appliances and lights that are not essential.

Beach Road residents in Amanzimtoti suffered a big electrical outage on Tuesday, 19 March after a surge when power was restored after loadshedding. Ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge said the system was overloading from appliances being left on during loadshedding.

He appealed to all Beach Road residents to switch off air conditioners, electrical appliances and lights that are not essential. “They had already re-routed the faulty cable at 393 Kingsway and tried to shut down some circuits to get the system up but the demand on the supply was absolutely ridiculous.”
