Martial arts champs continue winning streak

Both boys are protegees of their father and coach, Morne Swanepoel.

Amanzimtoti fighting brothers, Bradley (20) and Dylan Swanepoel (18) both won their main card fights at MFC Fight Zone at Greyville on Sunday, 3 March. Bradley defeated Lucky Mavimbela, while Dylan made short work of Mzwa Dlamini with a knock-out in the first round.

“This was the first time I faced Mzwa, so it was good to beat him, especially as he was ranked number two in our featherweight division,” said Dylan. “He was also undefeated and on a four fight winning streak.”

This follows both winning their divisions at a national grappling tournament three weeks ago. They have now been asked to compete at the Amateur World Champs. They have passed their pro MMA license, with Dylan (18) being one of the youngest in the country to do so.

Even more impressive, Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) wants to sign the Toti brothers up to make their debuts later this year in Durban. MFC has offered them a shot at the SA title this year and Dylan will have a shot at the title at Greyville in June, while Bradley is set for his EFC debut. “I’m excited to make my debut – all my hard work over the years has been working towards fighting in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and EFC is a step closer to that.”

Both are SA champs in mixed martial arts (MMA), submission wrestling and jiujitsu. With no losses in 23 MMA fights and more than 100 grappling and jiujitsu fights, the brothers have arguably the best fighting records in the country, including all the EFC fighters.

Both boys are protegees of their father and coach, Morne Swanepoel, who runs the Combat Coaching Gym in Seadoone Mall. Morné has been a full-time martial arts and fitness coach since 1993 and practitioner since 1976, and is certified as one of the most qualified reality-based personal protection high performance MMA coaches in the world.
