Fine artist’s demo to focus on healing in the arts

Demo this month will be given by Ana de Vleig.

THE March meeting of the Upper South Coast Art Association will be held at the Amanzimtoti Methodist Church Hall, 3 Dingwall Street on Saturday, 16 March.

The meeting will begin at 1pm and end at about 4pm.

Refreshments will be supplied for a small fee. The afternoon meeting will be preceded by a morning drawing session which begins at 9am and ends at about noon.

The drawing class for the year will be presented by Ritha Fenske. The drawing requirements are:

Black fineliner pen. Optional: Black Quinck Ink plus nib pen, medium watercolour brush (those who like a challenge can take along a feather), small container for water, paper towels, pencils and coloured pencils (preferably Aquarelle/water soluble), watercolour paper, or if you don’t have any, get good cartridge paper heavier than 200gsm as it must be able to handle wet work.

Don’t forget your scrap paper for warm-up drawings and a small to medium-size vase or holder, as well as foliage and flowers – some artificial flowers are quite lovely, a small branch with leaves on, or a pot plant.

Demo this month will be given by Ana de Vleig. Ana is a working fine artist and while painting, she will discuss the topic of healing in the arts. As she says if art is your focus in traumatic times, it will provide you with a place of calm and renew your energy and strength. Ana has a fine arts degree and has exhibited at the Hilton Arts Festival. Ana was recently published in SA Artist magazine, issue 37. She is quite versatile in watercolour inks and oils, and is a firm believer in sketching. Be prepared to work a little while she is chatting because Ana would like this demonstration to be interactive.
