Scottburgh’s Young blows out 99 candles

ON Thursday, 28 February Bill Young, a long-time resident of Summerhill Lodge, celebrated his 99th birthday.

A leap-year baby, Bill has only celebrated his ‘real’ birthday (29 February) 24 times, helping him live up to his youthful surname. When asked if he is looking forward to receiving his postcard from the Queen next year, he replied in his beautiful Scottish accent, “Nae, I’ll be sending her one”.

The Summerhill residents and friends shared in his celebration with a delicious lunch, featuring all of Bill’s favourites, including buffalo wings and prawns. The staff choir then sang happy birthday in English and Zulu, before each shared a special message of thanks to him. Thank you to Tina and her team for making the day a beautiful memory.
