UPDATE: Dwelling demolition delayed in Doonside water outage

"The local ward councillor on having taken note of the situation, is no longer reachable which again has us stepping in as ours are the areas directly effected as being without water,"_Cllr Andre Beetge.

Updating on the burst water pipe that has caused Doonside and surrounds to have no water today (Monday, 4 March), ward 97’s Cllr Andre Beetge explained that the location of the problem is outside of the municipal area and within land which falls under the traditional ownership of the Ingonyama Trust.

“The problem’s location is outside of the municipal area and within the traditional ownership of the Ingonyama Trust, under Inkosi Maphumulo,” he said.

“At times like these, co-operation between the land owner and the infrastructure owner (the municipality) remains essential towards finding a resolution. As so often happens, however, the local ward councillor on having taken note of the situation, is no longer reachable, which again has us stepping in as our areas are directly affected by being without water.”

Beetge said that despite management from senior level to HOD already alerted, nobody has as yet taken the decision to demolish the structure to gain access to the pipe, leaving the affected areas still suffering a water outage since earlier this morning (Monday, 4 March).

Updates to follow.
