This follows a burst water pipe which caused a water outage in Doonside and surrounding areas for most of today (Monday, 4 March).

The prolonged outage saw Amanzimtoti High School close early, owing to hygiene concerns.

The main feed line coming out of the Umgeni water reservoir at the top end of School Road, burst on Sunday, 3 March.

Councillor Beetge explained earlier in the day that a dwelling built over the pipe, had  complicated access to the burst main.

Later in the day, he added that frustrations were mounting, as the property falls within land owned and overseen by the Ingonyama Trust and that the city’s management had delayed a decision towards a resolution.

In a social media post time-stamped 4.05pm, Beetge said the decision had been reached to demolish the structure “after dragging half the management structure to Bhekulwandle”. Work will commence into the night, while two roaming water tankers provide water to the some 2,000 households whose taps ran dry today. Those tankers will go off-duty at 10pm. while another water tanker is stationed at Seadoone Mall until 8pm for residents to go and collect water.
