Burst pipe causes water outage in Doonside

Doonside and surrounding areas are without water after a pipe, situated underneath a dwelling, burst on Sunday, 3 March.

A burst water pipe has caused a water outage in Doonside and surrounding areas, today (Monday, 4 March).

The outage comes after the main feed line coming out of the Umgeni water reservoir, at the top end of School Road, burst on Sunday, 3 March.

According to Ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge, a dwelling has been built over the pipe and this is complicating the situation.

“The main 375 mm feed line coming out of the Umgeni water reservoir at the top end of School Road, located within the borders of neighbouring Bhekulwandle (Ward 109) burst on Sunday,” explained Beetge.

“The challenge is that a dwelling has been built over the pipe which in the first instance got partially demolished when the rupture occurred. Since being made aware of the situation on Monday, we have contacted the ward councillor and the induna of the area as repairs would necessitate further demolition of the structure with associated cost implications. We have also alerted eThekwini’s Head of Water and Sanitation to the situation.”
