Slow uptake to drive for school desks

Besides some donations in the first week, the answer to the call for local businesses and the Amanzimtoti public to donate school desks and chairs has been relatively slow.

Some Upper South Coast schools are critically short of desks and chairs and local businesses, service clubs and individuals are urged to join the campaign to donate.
A few desk frames that need to be fixed were donated in the first week, along with seven single tables, 37 double tables and 40 chairs, but since then no other donations have been received.

There is a need for 257 more desks and 260 chairs at local schools, owing to a higher than expected influx of pupils to better performing schools on the Upper South Coast. The cost of a desk is R280 and a chair R74, excluding VAT. To donate, or to receive information on where to purchase the correct desks and chairs, or to collect, call Matthew on 084-685-2190.
