Tips to help keep your hands looking younger

A youthful appearance isn’t only judged on the condition of our faces, necks and décolletage, but also the condition of our hands.

Everyday our hands are exposed to the sun and free radicals, which contribute to the ageing process.

‘Ageing signs on the hands include age spots, thinning and baggy skin, enlarged veins, and a bony skeletal appearance,’ explains Dr Maureen Allem of Skin, Body & Health Renewal. ‘As ageing hands are a multi-layered problem, it takes a combination of treatments to rejuvenate them and give them back their youthful appearance.’

Here’s are three steps that Your Family Magazine shared to age-proof hands and keep them looking great:

1. Exfoliate

Exfoliating is one of the easiest ways to keep your skin looking young and beautiful. By sloughing away dead skin cells, your hands will look revitalised with an even tone and soft texture.

Make a homemade sugar scrub by blending together half a cup of sugar, 3 tablespoons of olive oil, and 3 tablespoons of water. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil to the mix and stir.

2. Moisturise

A great hand cream like should be used daily. It helps to moisturise hands intensely, contains active soy that visibly reduces the appearance of brown spots and the SPF 25 prevents sun damage and discolouration.

3. Protect from the sun

Apply a good sunscreen to your hands every single day – especially just before you get in the car to drive anywhere! While driving your hands are most susceptible to the harmful rays of the sun, which cause sun spots and wrinkles.
