Do you think much has changed in the last 25 years?

IT is likely that a group of men posing as policemen are carrying out raids in the Toti area.

So says Major Bala Naidoo, media liaison officer at SAP Durban.

The SUN received a report that police went on a raid of night-spots in the area last Friday and several under-age teenagers were picked up as a result. On making enquiries, Lt Anton Booysen of Toti SAP, said he was unaware of the raid. Major JP Botha of Toti CID also denied any knowledge of the raid.


TOTI will feature on television in May.

“SATV has come up with the idea of promoting the Port Natal to Ebhodwe JSB area and Toti, falling within that area, will feature prominently,” said Yvonne Williams, PRO for Amanzimtoti Publicity Association (APA).

It was only this week that the JSB approved the proposal for the tourism drive which includes this area. “It is envisaged that ‘packages’ of prizes will be awarded each Sunday night for the duration of the programme,” said Yvonne.


EX-Toti woman and newspaper columnist, Penny Stewardson died on Sunday after suffering from cancer for five years.

Penny won many awards for her Sunday Tribune column ‘Penny for your Thoughts’ which she started writing after submitting an article on the experience of having a breast removed. Penny is survived by her daughters Lynn, Clare and Debra and ex-husband Brett. She was well known in Toti circles through her work in the Kingsway High School tuckshop.


TWO people were seriously injured in a three-car collision on the N2 opposite the Umbogintwini golf course last Thursday morning.

It is believed the accident happened as a result of another collision between two vehicles earlier that morning.

A spokesman for Toti Fire and Rescue said a vehicle overturned after colliding with another car at 7.07am on the northbound freeway. Two woman, Mrs T Heath and her daughter Vanessa were injured. The spokesman said the second collision occured at 8.52am and involved three vehicles.


TOTI’s central business district experienced a second bomb scare this week.

Scotts in Lifegro Centre received a call around lunch time, claiming there was a bomb in the area.

The area was cordoned off and the police bomb unit were on the scene within minutes. Nothing was found and the area was declared safe.
