Amanzimtoti scholars saddle up for SANESA qualifier

The Core League consists of dressage, equitation, showjumping and various showing classes.

EQUESTRIANS of Amanzimtoti saddle up to represent their school’s at the first South African National Equestrian Schools Association (SANESA) core qualifier event taking place on Saturday and Sunday, 9 and 10 February.

Jordyn Canning of Kingsway High School and Amanzimtoti High School’s Tannah Withers, Catherine Vincent, Paige Meredith and Jenna Day look forward to showing their capabilities in the saddle over the weekend.
SANESA holds various events for different disciplines.

“The Core League consists of dressage, equitation, showjumping and various showing classes,” explained Nicola Butler, who runs and teaches at Bhengu Stables in Toti. “Our girls will compete in the first three categories, each of which have different levels of difficulty (height) and are judged separately.”

Butler explained that the Core League consists of six different qualifiers over the following six months.

“If the girls complete at least four of the qualifiers at the same level in a discipline and do well, there is a chance that they could be selected for nationals. At nationals riders represent KZN against riders from other provinces.
This is usually held in Gauteng in around October each year. We hope to attend as many of the qualifiers as possible and will be fundraising to assist with the costs as best as we can,” she said.

Butler admitted the girls are extremely excited, as for most of them it’s the first big show they’ve ever entered.

“They’re all working hard to prepare themselves and their horses as best as they can. They’re also excited to represent their schools at a sport that is close to their heart, as equestrian disciplines are not always recognised by some schools,” she said.
