Toti riders dominate KZN road racing podiums

The annual prize giving brought together the club's riders and their families to celebrate the successful season along with the well-deserved champions of the year, many of which are proud residents of Amanzimtoti.

THE KZN Road Racing Club’s 2018 Championship took place on Saturday, 19 January at the Pigeon Club in the Bluff.

The annual prize giving brought together the club’s riders and their families to celebrate the successful season along with the well-deserved champions of the year, many of which are proud residents of Amanzimtoti.

Amanzimtoti has eight riders that competed in the 2018 championship and every single one of the local riders came home with an award on Saturday. Toti’s riders are Nikolai Conci, Jesse Conci, Machyla Tonsing, Ruben Tonsing, Erich Tonsing, Hein Etzel, Karl Etzel and Malcolm Rudman.

“Nikolai Conci of Helluvafast Motorcycles won not one, but two championships in 2018 and received his D&D Industries 300cc Champion Cup, as well as the the 600cc Champion Cup. It was a very special moment for Nikolai and his family as he was also awarded with the Hayden St. John-Ward Memorial Trophy of Most Outstanding Rider,” explained Carmen Conci.

“Younger brother Jesse Conci of Helluvafast Motorcycles based in Winkelspruit stood alongside his elder brother as he received his second place in the D&D Industries 300cc Cup. Malcolm Rudman of Montclair Motorcycles also based in Amanzimtoti stood alongside the two brothers in third place. It was all smiles as we had the opportunity to witness an All-Toti dominated podium.”

Amanzimtoti’s Nikolai Conci of Helluvafast Motorcycles carries his many awards earned.

Carmen further explained that Erich Tönsing came home with a fantastic third place for 2018 in the 1000cc class, despite having sustained injuries earlier in the year. It was a proud evening for the talented family as son and daughter, Ruben and Machyla Tönsing, who competed in the MiniGP Class in 2018, were awarded solid positions too. Machyla, being one of the few lovely lady riders in the club, was awarded fifth place, and young Ruben placed a well-deserved second place for the year.

The Etzel brothers continued to shine and have their talents recognised. Hein Eztel of Argotek Engineering based in Winkelspruit also came home a champion on Saturday as he placed first in the Super Motard class for 2018. Runner up Karl Etzel of Auto Rust Control, also based in Winkelspruit, claimed a close second place in the Super Motard Class for 2018.

“It was a great year of racing for all of the talented local riders, and 2019 promises to be just as grand,” said Carmen.

“Our local riders are out there training and planning every day, brewing up a storm for the up and coming season.”
The first race of the season kicks off on Saturday, 9 March at Dezzi Raceway. Be sure to make your way to the raceway to support Toti’s talented riders.
