A MAN was hacked to death with a bush knife and his girlfriend was seriously wounded at Chain Rocks on Sunday, 30 January.

Despite bleeding profusely from a neck wound, the woman managed to crawl towards the Chain Rocks steps.

She called for help and early morning beachgoers alerted the police. The man was badly hacked and died of his injuries. At about 7am when they arrived at the scene near the Doonside Ski-Boat Club, the police found the two bleeding victims and a man armed with a bush knife.


SCHOOL children from all over Kingsburgh will miss Jotham Hlela, the friendly traffic officer who died last week.

Jotham was well known as a pointsman who worked many of the school beats over the past nine years.

He started work with Kingsburgh Protection Services in 1985 and died on Thursday, 27 January after a long illness.


A MAN was arrested in Toti last week in connection with the confiscation of 150kg of dagga.

Apparently the dagga, which was hidden in two snooker tables, was to be taken to the Netherlands.

The arrest followed months of investigation by the police, headed by Captain Spyker Ludick.


A YOUNG Toti boy’s birthday party turned sour last Saturday when he and his three friends were threatened and shot at by older boys with pellet guns at the Ilanda Wilds braai area.

The incident occured at about noon when 11-year-old Stanley Anderson was waiting for his mother, Fiona Anderson to return after going home to fetch the rest of her family. While she was away, a group of six boys aged about 15, who were armed with three pellet guns, approached the youngsters. One of Stanley’s friends had a BB rifle held to his head, while another was shot on the finger.


THE quick reactions of a member of the Illovo Neighbourhood Watch led to the arrest of four men who were trying to break into a BMW on Sunday night.

The woman notified the Kingsburgh Protection Services and officers Craig Clinton and Braden Pitchers rushed to the scene.

They were assisted in their efforts by members of Toti SAP. Officer Pitchers and the SAP managed to intercept the men as they tried to make their get-away. Found in the vehicle were house and car-breaking implements which included a wrench used in the attempt to gain access to the BMW.
