“At about 5.30am, I managed to lure it into my kitchen with a trail of vienna sausages. I threw a blanket over it, while my friend cut the line, as it was tightly tangled around both feet. The bird did not move while we gently cut the line,” said Carol.

However, when she attempted it release it, she realised the bird was in shock. “There were some stressful moments while the bird lay on the blanket. I think it was about three minutes, but felt like 30 minutes, before it flew off onto a neighbour’s roof. Within 10 minutes it flew back down and was eating again. Strangely, it took each step as if the fishing line was still tied to its legs. An hour-and-half later it was preening on the lawn with another stork.”
