South cluster police secure multiple arrests and recover 62 firearms

Apart from the arrests, a total of 62 firearms and 470 rounds of ammunition were recovered, with 54 dangerous weapons being removed, 48 of which were knives.

Officers from eThekwini Outer South cluster police stations made 1,167 arrests during the festive season and recovered 62 firearms between the eight stations from mid November to 1 January.

Arrests were made for murder, attempted murder, rape, sexual assault, kidnapping, business robbery, assault GBH, armed robbery, house robbery, house breaking, malicious damage to property, theft, domestic violence, possession of dangerous weapons, shoplifting, carjacking, theft of motor vehicle, malicious damage to property, possession of drugs, dealing in liquor, drunk and driving, road traffic infringements and dealing in liquor without a licence.

“Our partnerships with Metro Police and RTI also contributed towards the successes within the cluster. The help of the community in giving information and working with the SAPS also adds to the good picture. A total of 62 firearms and 470 rounds of ammunition were recovered, with 54 dangerous weapons being removed, 48 of which were knives,” said eThekwini Outer South cluster acting commander, Brigadier Vukani Mgobhozi.
