CCPO records low festive season crime rate

According to Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO), the crime rate was low in Amanzimtoti this festive season.

It was a relatively quiet festive season in terms of crime according to the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO). Apart from housebreakings and theft of motor vehicles, it only reported on two major incidents that took place on 22 December.

The first was an armed robbery that occurred at Whitfield Drive, St Winifreds, where three suspects, one armed with a firearm, jumped over the boundary wall and held up the resident outside on the veranda. Two sets of car keys, a cellphone and handbag were taken. Both sets of keys were recovered on the side of the property after the suspects fled on the R603.

Earlier in the day, a cyclist was robbed in Ndongeni Drive at about 5am by four armed suspects in a dark coloured Toyota Corolla. They took his cellphone, house keys and a pair of sunglasses.

In a separate incident, a wheel barrow thief was caught by a Blue Security response officer in Almond Road, Warner Beach on 21 December. He was assisted by CCPO supervisor, Logan Naidoo and CCPO and Blue Security patrol officer, Mbuyiselo ‘Triple M’ Mdunjane. He was detained by Amanzimtoti SAPS.
