Get out of your holiday slump

Don't give up too easily - the longer you leave it the harder it will get to finish it.

The holiday is over and everyone is back at work.

Chances are, you are not in work mode. Like zombies, we walk around with no sense of focus or purpose, not knowing where or how to switch on our brains. Stuck in holiday mode, your mind drifts off, back to the beach or your bed but you know time is running out and there are assignments, exams and deadlines to meet.

You start to panic but your body is too tired to move…What do you do??

Get out of your slump by:

Focus on a goal: Set your mind on one task at a time, don’t overwhelm yourself and allow your brain to process the information.

Get excited: Amp yourself up, tell yourself that you can do it.

Fake it until you make it: If you still feel down and unmotivated, just fake it. Activate your endorphins by tricking your brain to think you are happy by thinking positive and funny thoughts and eat a chocolate.

Commit publicly: Tell your friend or colleague  what you are about to do, let them challenge you. Write your goal on a board. Making it public forces you to work to towards achieving your goal to avoid disappointment.

Stick with it: Don’t give up too easily – the longer you leave it the harder it will get to finish it. Tell yourself how much easier your life will be once your task is complete.

Exercise: Get the blood flowing and your brain cells revitalised with some good workout. Sometimes, the body needs to be woken up with a run. Incorporate exercise into your life, preferably on a daily basis.

So get out of that slump and pull yourself together. You will feel better and lighter once you tackle the mountain of work.
