JUST IN: Homeless Doonside man found dead

Eddie was known for remaining blatantly truthful, and he spun no stories as his well-known board proclaimed: "Whoza Friday. Not going to lie - I need a drink".

A HOMELESS Doonside man known as Eddie, who was well-known for sitting on the N2 offramp at Seadoone with an honestly-written board attached to a pram, died on Tuesday, 18 December allegedly of natural causes.

Eddie was known for remaining blatantly truthful, and he spun no stories as his well-known board proclaimed: “Whoza Friday. Not going to lie – I need a drink”.

A post placed on the Amanzimtoti Trader Facebook page expressed concern about the body covered in foil on the roadside, lying beside a pram in Eddie’s exact ‘spot’. The Facebook community began sharing their fond memories of the local character. He was described as harmless, humble and forever honest.

Commenters shared the idea to erect a cross on the spot, bearing one of his sayings. While it shocks passers-by to witness a body lying covered on the roadside, only forensic pathologists from the state mortuary office may move a dead body. Police responded to the scene, awaiting the arrival of the mortuary van.

The exact cause of Eddie’s death is unknown.

“There were no signs of any visible injuries, but the cause of death will only be determined through post mortem examination. A case of Inquest was opened for further investigation,” said Toti SAPS communication officer, Captain Charlene van der Spuy.
