CCPO tackles robbery spike in Toti

The CCPO is a non-profit organisation and we rely on public funds to keep our guys patrolling.

Amanzimtoti is blessed to have an elite crime-fighting unit like the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO). CCPO committee member, George Snodey said there were three house robberies in the Toti area on Tuesday, 11 December.

“In the early hours of the morning a resident knew there was someone in his Krantdraai complex property and could see his shadow. He opened the door thinking the intruder would run away, however he ran towards the homeowner, where a short scuffle took place. The resident sustained a cut to his finger and the intruder escaped with some property,” said Snodey.

Later that morning, also in the early hours, an Adelaide Road resident was robbed in her complex by a knife-wielding intruder, who also stole property and her car. “The car, which had a tracking device fitted, was found in Illovo Township by ET Rapid Response but no suspects were found.

“At around mid-day a Goodhope Way resident was hanging her washing when she was attacked by two thugs who locked her up in the bathroom and ransacked the home.” They took TVs, laptops and phones but the TVs, that were hidden in the bush, were recovered by the Metro Police K9 unit, who like Toti SAPS, ET and Blue Security, responded to the incident when they heard the call being transmitted over the CCPO radio network.

The TVs, stolen from a Goodhope Way residence, were recovered by the Metro Police K9 unit.

“Having these guys sharing our radios is a massive help in the fight against crime. Remember, the CCPO is a non-profit organisation and we rely on public funds to keep our guys patrolling. If we had just a third of our local community supporting us, it would ensure more staff on the road and it would go a long way in slowing crime down. If you can afford to become a member, now is the time to sign up, not after the horse has bolted,” said Snodey. To join the CCPO, call Snodey on 083-655-4302 or the CCPO office on 031-903-7037.
