AMANZIMTOTI Women’s Institute’s (AWI) October meeting opened with the singing of the FWI song, Unity and after the Mary Steward Collect was read by Norma Veldmann, members had a moment of silence to honour WI member Pat Brittian who died last week.

President Yvonne Dixie then welcomed all to the meeting, especially the visitors.

Preparations for the AWI Christmas party on Tuesday, 4 December were discussed. Members will be going to Giselle’s in Beach Road, meeting there at noon. Members were asked to take a wrapped gift for a man or woman, which will be given to Joanne to be distributed at one of the Elder’s Voice houses. Yvonne thanked members for bringing yummy items for the hamper to be raffled at the party.

After tea and delicious snacks, everyone welcomed Tracy Adkins from the Gift of the Givers NGO. What a dedicated and inspired yet humble speaker she was, telling everyone how the organisation began, how it operates and all about its wide scope of good works, both in South Africa and overseas, from relief to victims of the fires around Knysna to those left homeless by the tsunami in the Philippines.
