Bikers revved as KZN Toy Run shifts gear

The Durban Toy Run takes place on Sunday, 25 November at Amanzimtoti Sports Centre grounds from 9.30am until late.

THE biggest motorcycle run in KZN and second biggest in SA, the Durban Toy Run takes place on Sunday, 25 November at Amanzimtoti Sports Centre grounds from 9.30am until late.

Due to municipal restrictions after 2017’s two fatalities, there will be no organised mass ride and riders will make their way to the end venue in their clubs or as individuals.

Now in its 36th year, the event organisers are making all efforts to ensure it’ll be one for the books. Riders should note that because there will be no mass ride, Pavilion Mall will charge the standard parking fee if bikers meet there.

Organisers explained that when making their way to the end venue, bikers must plan their own rides or ride individually. Toys collected will be donated to Choc, Operation Bobbi Bear, Mother of Peace, Peacehaven, 1,000 Hills, Lions Clubs and other children’s homes and street children in the greater Durban area, from Scottburgh northwards to Umhlanga.

Focus is placed on deaf, blind and special needs schools and sadly, those terminally ill children who may not see another Christmas. The charities will collect their requested toys on the day after 1pm. Toys are to be donated in the main marquee near the Toy Run regalia stand, stage and DJ.

To enter the event, take along a new, unwrapped toy, as then organisers are able to tell the age and gender that would most enjoy the toy. Used toys are also accepted but these must be complete, working and clean.

Habit To and DV8 rock bands will keep the spirits high on the day. There will be a president’s auction and bikers’ auction, the proceeds of both going to local children’s charities. Attendees are assured of good food and a well-stocked pub, beer garden, children’s play area, stalls and stands. Word has it that there will be a range of 2019 bikes on show.

Road users on the day are urged to set off on their journey early, as the roads will no doubt be jam-packed with motorbikes making their way to the Toti grounds.

Interested stallholders at the event are to note that because Lords and Legends funds much of the event’s setup, no food or drink stalls are permitted. Stalls selling or promoting motorcycle related products can book a stall for R250 or donate an item to the value of the stand cost, which will be auctioned off in the bikers’ auction.

To book a stall, call Les on 083-487-6846 or email madhatter@highwaydragonsmc.co.za or Jo 072-648-5572.
Face painters, clowns and the like are welcome to join in the fun.
