Joint anti-drug effort revived in Amanzimtoti

The initiative will kick off on Friday evening, 16 November with a visit to various establishments.

As the festive season approaches, residents are again reminded of the ever-increasing threat of drug usage, especially among the Amanzimtoti youth. It is against this background that Bikers Against Drugs (BAD) has been revived under the chairmanship of Doc Holman from MAC’s Motorcycle Club.

The initiative, in close co-operation with Amanzimtoti SAPS, represented by Captain Charlene van der Spuy and local government represented by ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge, will kick off on Friday evening, 16 November with a visit to various establishments in a bid to secure their commitment towards operating a drug-free environment.

“The exercise will be repeated in December while covert police operatives will be deployed to monitor the situation that will include serving of alcohol to minors. The 2019 programme will seek to enhance co-operation with local schools, churches and the community to raise awareness against the common enemy that seeks to target our children,” said Cllr Beetge.
