Amanzimtoti crime network turns up the heat on CBD business burglar

Unfortunately, due to the terrain in Ziko which borders KwaMakhutha, the suspect saw us coming and fled.

Thursday, 9 November was a day of mixed fortunes for the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO). In the morning they received information regarding stolen property which had been sold to a woman in Toti, after being stolen in a business break-in in the CBD area earlier in the week.

“We also received information on the whereabouts of the person who committed the robbery,” said committee member, George Snodey. Accompanied by a Toti detective, CCPO and Blue Security patrol officer Mbuyiselo ‘Triple M’ Mdunjane and ET Rapid Response South Coast, Snodey went in search of the suspect.

“Unfortunately, due to the terrain in Ziko which borders KwaMakhutha, the suspect saw us coming and fled. After a lengthy chase, he escaped among the shacks. The culprit, who is known to us, is going to have some sleepless nights for a while now but we will get him sooner or later.”

Later in the day another informer made contact with the CCPO and gave them information about a TV which had been stolen in Winklespruit a few days ago. Triple M with ET’s Louis van Ryneveld and Metro K9 unit members picked up two men, who took them to Umgababa where the TV was recovered.

“While busy with this, they received information about cable being stripped at a nearby residence,” said Snodey. On arrival, a lot of cable was found in the house and outside, where it was being chopped into strips. The culprit was apprehended.
