No police were injured in the attempted escape.

An escaping prisoner was shot dead and four others injured during an attempted jail break at Isipingo SAPS holding cells on Monday, 5 November.

“We can confirm that cases of murder, attempted murder and escaping from lawful custody were opened at Isipingo police station. All wounded were awaiting trial prisoners. The case has been transferred to the IPID for investigation,” said Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane of the SAPS KZN Media Centre.
