R1,2-m school astroturf a dream come true for Isipingo school

The project, which started out as a school hall before being adapted as astro turf courts, is expected to cost R1.2-million.

It was a day for celebration when Kamalinee Primary School in Lotus Park, Isipingo broke ground on the long-awaited construction of its astro turf courts.

Members of the KZN Education Department, school governing body, teachers and pupils witnessed the realisation of a long-time dream when the sod-turning ceremony yielded the start of the three-week long construction process.

The morning was an especially proud one for principal Jagatheesan Naidoo, who hopes to see the project finalised before his retirement. “Kamalinee Primary School is proud to announce the construction of a double court astro turf. After many years of fundraising, our dream has now finally been realised,” he said.

The project, which started out as a school hall before being adapted as astro turf courts, is expected to cost R1.2-million. “This is a historic moment for our school and one of the biggest projects we have undertaken. On completion, the astro turf courts will be available for use by our pupils and the surrounding community.
