Ghoulish litter haunts Kingsway stretch in Warner Beach

A whopping 55 bags were filled with rubbish collected from a mere 60m stretch of the road.

NIGHTMARE on Kingsway Street is what Clean Surf Project’s active volunteers named the clean-up that took place on Saturday, 27 October along the Warner Beach stretch of Kingsway, after a mass of Halloween and even Christmas-related decorations were found on the roadside.

A whopping 55 bags were filled with rubbish collected from a mere 60m stretch of the road.

Sapphire Coast Tourism chairwoman, Romy Wenzel gets stuck into the Kingsway verge, removing all the accumulated litter.

“Forget the ghosts of Christmas Past, it was more like the ghouls of Halloween Gone during our latest street clean up effort,” shared Clean Surf Project on their Facebook page.

“Our volunteers were confronted with the haunting remnants of last year’s Christmas decorations and Halloween props that had been carelessly discarded in the bush along the roadside. Another frightening reminder of how little we care for the planet that sustains us.”

CSP thanked those who weren’t scared to help out and make a difference to the community in which we live.

“Our community and our home is better because of people like you. Tristan and Declyn from Warner Beach Preparatory and Welcome Mkhize were among the brave souls who helped collect 55 bags of rubbish from a 60m stretch along Kingsway Road. We salute you,” posted Clean Surf Project.

Sapphire Coast Tourism chairwoman, Romy Wenzel thanked Cllr Andre Beetge and DSW for promptly collecting the bags the same day.

“It is quite sad to see everyone constantly moan about the litter, especially shop owners along Kingsway and residents, but only a few are willing to make a positive difference,” she said.
