Support Clean Surf’s mission to save marine life

The local organisation partnered with Aliwal Shoal Scuba Dive Centre, making its latest presentation at Umkomaas Primary School even more exciting than usual, on Wednesday, 17 October.

CLEAN Surf Project continues to send more minds down ocean-conscious paths through visits made to schools around the town, that educate on the importance of decreasing one’s dependence on plastic and the use of it.

The local organisation partnered with Aliwal Shoal Scuba Dive Centre, making its latest presentation at Umkomaas Primary School even more exciting than usual, on Wednesday, 17 October.

The presentation, a joint initiative between Clean Surf Project and Aliwal Shoal Scuba Dive Centre, saw learners from grades 1 to 7 being educated about the negative impact plastic pollution has on marine life, the Sapphire Coast beaches and everyone’s everyday life.

The wet weather didn’t dampen the spirits of both teachers and pupils learning from the presentation.

Microplastics and their detrimental affect that they pose to soil, water, animals and humans alike were discussed.

Striking statistics and mind-blowing facts kept all sitting on the edge of their seats, in shock that humans are doing what they are to the planet. The dive centre shared how plastic is affecting sharks, among other marine creatures, along the coastline.

If interested in having CSP host a presentation at your school or workplace within the Sapphire Coast region, contact Clean Surf Project on 082-802-3353 or email cleansurfproject@gmail.com.

The community is reminded of the upcoming clean-up taking place on Saturday, 27 October. Beat the Street (edition two) will see Warner Beach’s strip of Kingsway cleared of litter.

The clean-up runs from 8am until 10am and those attending must meet at the St. Mary’s Church/Warner Beach Railway Station, bringing their own gloves, bags will be supplied.
