Bright and beautiful 21 Club spring luncheon

The members turned out in pretty Spring outfits.

ALTHOUGH the weather did not exactly play the game, the 21 Club Spring luncheon was truly bright and beautiful.

The tables were graced with exquisite arrangements of colourful paper flowers and butterflies. Many thanks to Susan Grobler who spent many hours fashioning her masterpieces, and to her mom, Denise Kenton, who assisted with the intriguing shredded paper designs surrounding them.

The members turned out in pretty Spring outfits. Some even risked a hat. Everyone enjoyed the ‘Spring chicken’ main and the appropriately bright fruit salad and cream dessert provided by Lords.

Guest speaker Zanele Njapha held the audience in the palm of her hand from her first sentence to her last.

Born in Umlazi, Zanele attended Umbogintwini Primary and Kingsway High before completing her four year degree in education at UKZN Edgewood. She is currently teaching at Doonheights Primary. Zanele emphasised the huge impact her teachers had on her early development, her acquisition of language and eventually, writing skills. “They taught me the beauty of words,” she said.

At the tender age of 24, Zanele is a self-published author. She outlined her journey and the passion she followed in her bid to share this story, “An Eye for Love” with others. Zanele spoke with conviction and sincerity and easily won the audience over with moments of humour. 21 Club wishes this bright and beautiful young woman every success with her career and the completion of her Masters, as well as all her efforts to assist the youth in achieving their goals through education.

21 Club will kick off early with the AGM at 11.30am for noon on Wednesday, 24 October at the Lords and Legends conference room. The décor will be pink in honour of breast cancer awareness. Wear pink or at least a touch of pink. This will be followed by the luncheon. Unfortunately the planned guest speaker has had to postpone due to unforeseen circumstances. Members should look forward to fun and games instead.

Confirmation to attend or not must be received by the relevant committee members by Friday, 19 October. Remember to take a grocery item for Lions Club.

Only members may invite a guest who will be accommodated if there is space.
