MUST-READ: Amanzimtoti water supply slowly being restored

Areas which ran dry last night are prioritised for supply via tanker

Water supply to parts of Amanzimtoti which were affected by this morning’s widespread outage is slowly being restored.
Ethekwini Municipality’s head of electricity confirmed to ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge that electricity supply has been restored to the pumpstations, which are back up and running.
However, this will unfortunately not mean that areas where supply already ran dry, will have water within an hour.
Due to the extent of the network, it could take hours, even days, to get water back to all areas due to air in the system.
Fortunately Ethekwini did not remove pressure relief valves when the water restrictions were lifted, thus enabling air pockets to reduce, especially so in urban areas.
“Areas around central Amanzimtoti down to Athlone Park that are supplied off the Umgeni reservoir along School Road will only be supplied once the reservoir reaches sufficient capacity to engage supply pumps,” said Cllr Beetge.
At this point there is no need to disperse water tankers to urban areas which started running dry earlier this morning.  Instead areas which ran dry last night are prioritised for supply via tanker.
